UnitSnap for iPhone and iPad · Jaceal LLC

How the input box works

Type the quantity the way you would write it. The box already has focus when the app opens, and the keyboard opens on numbers, because every line UnitSnap accepts begins with a digit or a currency symbol. All of these work:

To get a full ABC keyboard for a unit name, tap the letters key. The number is free; only the unit costs the tap.

Why did it ask whether I meant weight or currency?

Because “pounds” is genuinely both, and guessing would be worse than asking. UnitSnap offers both readings, shows neither until you choose, and then remembers your choice so it will not ask again. If you want to change that answer later, clear the app's remembered preferences in Settings.

Making a unit the default for a measure

400 g answers in ounces, which is right for a recipe and wrong for a parcel. Tap the pounds row once and grams will answer in pounds from then on — including the next time you type a weight. Ounces does not disappear; it moves down the list.

Currency rates

Rates come from the European Central Bank's published reference rates, with a second public source used for currencies the ECB does not cover. They refresh at most twice a day, and on working days only — the ECB does not publish at weekends.

UnitSnap always tells you how old the number is, in words: “Live rate, fetched a moment ago”, or “Cached rate from yesterday, not today's.” If you have no signal, the last rates are still used and the app says so. These are reference rates, not the rate your bank or card issuer will give you.

Clinical conversions

UnitSnap converts laboratory values between conventional and SI units, and computes body surface area (Mosteller), ideal body weight (Devine) and BMI. Inputs stay on screen next to the answer so the basis of the number is always visible.

UnitSnap converts units and derives values from the numbers you enter. It does not recommend a dose. Verify against your institution's protocol and, per your facility's policy, a second clinician. It is not a medical device and nothing you enter is stored or transmitted.

Switching BMI between US and metric

The toggle changes how the same stored figure is displayed. It does not recompute a slightly different BMI from rounded text, so 5 ft 11 in at 180 lb reads 25.1 whichever system you are looking at.

Does UnitSnap work offline?

Every conversion except live currency is computed on the device and works with no signal at all. Currency uses the last rates it successfully fetched, and tells you how old they are.

Privacy

UnitSnap collects nothing — no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no account. The privacy policy sets out exactly what stays on your device and the one request the app makes.

Refunds

Purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds are too. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com with the Apple ID used to buy the app. Jaceal LLC cannot issue App Store refunds directly — but do tell us what went wrong, because that is how it gets fixed.

Something is wrong, or a number looks off

Please report it. Send the exact line you typed, the answer you got, the answer you expected, and your iOS version, to jacealllc@gmail.com. A conversion that returns the wrong number is treated as the most serious kind of bug in this app.
